Here’s a glimpse into a typical fun day at Sum It Up’s girls lacrosse camp.
Campers arrive and put their things together in one place. As they wait for other campers to arrive, they work on stick skills. And as they arrive, they’re greeted by our amazing coaches. The campers are given some time each morning to get comfortable with the coaches before activities or lacrosse events start.
To get the girls energized, each morning starts off with a Big Group Game. Campers’ favorites include fun activities like Huggie Bear, Horse & Jockey, Kids from Mars, and Sister Tag.
Campers head to morning stations to practice things like longest throw, hitting the bucket, stick keep up, dodging, and shooting. These rotating stations give the girls an opportunity to learn multiple new skills, and they give them the chance to decide on their favorite coach.
Snack time! At Sum It Up, we make sure each girl has a break and time to grab a snack—all that fun can really tire a girl out! Girls can sit in the shade, drink some water, and make new friends.
For mini-team challenges, campers are separated into teams with girls of all ages and abilities. Girls who are new to lacrosse are given the opportunity to showcase other skills they have in challenges such as Coaches Trivia, The Hula-Hoop Challenge, and Water Relays. At week’s end, girls leave camp with an appreciation for the special talents of each member on their team.
During afternoon stations, the girls get a chance to try out their new skills in a game-like scenario. They’ll play games such as piñata shooting, frames, fastest shot, craft, 2 v. 2, 1. v.1, lacrosse skill reinforcement.
Lunch time! Along with refueling for the afternoon session, girls use this time to make friendship bracelets, braid hair, or practice for the day’s competition. Sum It Up coaches sit with the campers during lunchtime to get to know them on a casual basis (they don’t go off and sit with the other coaches). The relationships forged between campers and coaches often provide the most enduring memories of the camp week.
The Big Challenge brings the color teams together for an afternoon competition. These challenges create memories we hear about all winter long. The Cheer Competition and Soap Box Derby are among the favorites of all our campers.
The end of the day at Sum It Up brings out ice pops, stick raffles, and Player of the Day awards so everyone can feel like a champion at Sum It Up. Player-of-the-Day awards highlight each campers unique talents – on and off the field. (Don’t worry, by the end of the week, each camper will receive a Player-of-the-Day award.) Girls can also cool off with sprinkler play.
